Walgreens plans to open a new office in the city in which it was founded – Chicago, US.

It anticipates 1,800 people will be based at the new office space – with approximately 1,300 positions being relocated to Chicago – in The Old Post Office building, located at 433 W. Van Buren St.

The office will span around 200,000sqft and will house the largest number of corporate employees Walgreens has ever had based in Chicago.

Alex Gourlay, President of Walgreens, said: “Investing in our infrastructure and building our digital and technical capabilities are essential elements of our business transformation strategy, as we work to improve access for our customers and enhance the customer experience.

"The space in the iconic Old Post Office building allows us to attract and retain the best talent from all of Chicagoland.”

Employees working across digital and IT operations will set up in the office, while the space also acts to extend Walgreens’ Technology Center of Excellence.

Walgreens Boots Alliance will remain headquartered in north suburban Deerfield, Illinois, where around 3,200 employees are expected to continue to work.
