The UK women’s fragrance market sniffed out a new kind of success last year: the launch of the fastest selling scent in history (according to The Perfume Shop). But the accolade didn’t go to a designer fragrance, such as Armani Sì (Giorgio Armani/L’Oréal) or Marc Jacobs Honey (Coty Prestige) – although these launches both sold very well. It went to celebrity scent Our Moment (Eden Parfums), the first fragrance from chart-topping band One Direction. As the number one women’s fragrance launch in 2013 (NPD), one bottle of Our Moment was sold every minute nationwide at The Perfume Shop, which had to triple deliveries to its stores and enlist additional staff as fans flocked to buy the fragrance. The fruity-floral scent, which contains top notes of pink grapefruit, wild berries, redcurrants combined with jasmine petals and frangipani and dry notes of musk and patchouli, went on to win a series of industry and retailer awards.
