Last year was one of the toughest in recent history for the French fragrance market. Back in 2014, selective fragrances had picked up after a long spate of decline, but the market returned to negative growth in 2015 due to the strong impact on sales caused by the terrorist attacks. Mathilde Lion, Beauty Europe Industry Expert at The NPD Group tells Cosmetics Business: “The attacks we had in January, and then in November and December, explain more than 60% of the losses. They had a direct impact on footfall in stores, especially in November and December.”
