But visitor numbers down on 2010 expo

Against all odds, following postponement in the face of extensive flooding in Bangkok, in-cosmetics Asia (which took place from 14-16 December, 2011, at BITEC, Bangkok) has been hailed a success by organiser Reed Exhibitions.

A total of 266 exhibiting companies hailing from 29 countries marked a 13% increase on 2010’s figures, although visitor numbers were down on last year’s total: 3,865 compared to 4,700.

“The terrible flooding in Thailand significantly affected business throughout the entire region and provided us with a unique challenge to overcome at the 2011 show,” commented in-cosmetics Asia event director Sarah Gibson. “We would like to extend our gratitude to all exhibitors and visitors who contributed to the rescheduled event – without their commitment it would not have been possible to provide such a productive programme of events.”

A new Innovation Zone format featured over 30 display boxes to highlight the latest innovations in cosmetic ingredients and the inaugural Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award, sponsored by SPC Asia, went to Lonza for its ReGeniStem Red Rice.

This year’s show also introduced a series of 30-minute ingredient demonstrations from exhibitors including DSM Nutritional Products, Galaxy Surfactants, Indena and Merck.

Attendees voiced their satisfaction with the 2011 event. “I attended in 2010 as well, but I have got even more out of this year’s show, especially through the features offered in the Marketing Trends and Innovation Seminars,” commented visitor Hussein Kalla, research and development for Health & Beauty at Amka.

Meena Lee, R&D manager, Kat Personal Care, Malaysia – a first time exhibitor – added: “There were many visitors, distributors and suppliers in attendance, enabling us to generate good business leads from countries all over the world, including China, Egypt, Japan, Korea and the Philippines.”
