From legislation, components and contents right the way through to recycling schemes, the aerosol business is one that’s continually adapting and growing

2011 is the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association’s (BAMA) 50th anniversary year, a landmark recently celebrated at its Autumn Forum and Awards Dinner in Manchester, UK (20-21 October).

The region’s aerosol industry has certainly come a long way since the first insecticide and air freshener sprays began production in the UK back in 1949. Last year, UK aerosol filling figures topped 1.27 billion units, up 3.3% on 2009, and personal care products remained the main driver of growth. In the largest category – deodorants, body sprays and antiperspirants – production increased 1.1% on the prior year period to 593 million, while the hairsprays and hair mousses category grew by 13 million units, totalling nearly 82 million.
