IFF’s expansion of its Grasse site ‘underscores’ the fragrance and flavours firm’s ‘commitment to shaping the future of natural ingredients’ said CEO Erik Fyrwald

IFF has expanded its LMR Naturals site in Grasse, France after a €10m investment to find the “next generation” of natural ingredients that “will shape the future of fine perfumery”.

The US fragrance and flavours firm has increased the footprint of the site – located in what is often called the perfume capital of the world – by 75% to 4,687 square meters.

The newly expanded site includes a state-of-the-art pilot hall designed to accelerate the development of new natural ingredients.

An experimental field nearby complements the new complex and will provide direct access to plant materials, enabling deeper exploration of botanical potential and fast-tracking ingredient innovation, the company said in a statement.

More than 30 research and development experts will now be housed under one roof, which is said to enhance IFF’s “ability to meet rising global demand for traceable, sustainable and high-quality naturals”.

Erik Fyrwald, IFF’s CEO, said: “LMR Naturals is a strategic asset in IFF’s portfolio, and this expansion underscores our commitment to shaping the future of natural ingredients.”

“By deepening our roots in Grasse – the global centre of excellence for natural ingredients – we are scaling innovation that empowers perfumers and flavorists worldwide to deliver high-performing, exceptional and sustainable signatures consumers trust.”

The expansion is “a launchpad for the next generation of naturals that will shape the future of fine perfumery” added Sabrya Meflah, president of IFF’s fine fragrance segment.

LMR Naturals was founded in 1983 by Monique Remy and acquired by IFF in 2000 and produced fragrances across fine fragrance, cosmetics, home care and fabric care, as well as ingredients for flavour.

Bertrand de Preville, General Manager of LMR Naturals, said that with the newly expanded site now fully operational, the company intends to launch four to six new products each year.
