Most know LG for its expansive variety of electronics, but what some may not know is that the tech giant began life as a health and beauty company.
One half of LG stems from the Lucky Chemicals company, founded in 1947 by Chairman Koo In-hwoi, who later established tech brand Goldstar in 1958.
These would merge in 1995 to become LG Electronics, with its beauty division now a subsidiary known as LG Household & Health Care (LG H&H).
Despite its prominence in the electronics field, Lucky Chemicals’s debut moisturiser, the Lucky Cream, still holds sway in the country today.
And alongside products from fellow giant Amorepacific, founded in 1945, Lucky Chemical’s moisturiser is one of the main skin care goods that the dominant K-beauty market can trace its roots back to.
Lucky Cream was met with an immediately strong response in South Korea, Steven Jeong, Managing Director at LG H&H’s UK branch, tells Cosmetics Business.
