SkinCeuticals makes antioxidant breakthrough

Findings shared at World Congress of Dermatology 2015

SkinCeuticals has shared details of its latest research into antioxidants at the World Congress of Dermatology.

The L'Oréal-owned skin care company found that topical application of antioxidants during laser therapies allowed the two treatments to work synergistically. The laser allows C E Ferulic, an antioxidant combination produced by SkinCeuticals, to better penetrate the skin and work more effectively. The antioxidant reduces patient post-treatment downtime by up to two days.

The finding led to the development of SkinCeuticals' new Age-Defying Laser + Antioxidant System, which combines the at-home Tria Age-Defying Laser with C E Ferulic and Resveratrol BE. After 12 weeks of treatment, clients showed significant improvement in the smoothness of skin as well reduction in the appearance of premolar and global wrinkles.

The effects of pollution on the skin were also explored, with SkinCeutical’s Dr Krutmann sharing research on what has been called “the next sun” for skin care. Pre-treating skin with vitamin C before exposure can provide significant protection against the free radicals of pollution and associated ageing effects, particularly in the forehead and nasolabial folds.

The company also presented research showing that Resveratrol not only works as an antioxidant on its own, but also boosts activity within the body’s antioxidant defences. Research on SkinCuetical’s Resveratrol B E found that it could improve skin density by up to 19%.

The company delivered the news in a symposium titled “New Frontiers in Antioxidant Research, Advancing the Science Across the Environment and Aging Spectrum to Maximise Clinical Outcomes”.
