The executive, who delivered some of the UK health and beauty retailer’s biggest campaigns, is leaving to start ‘the next chapter’ in his career

Boots’ CMO Pete Markey has stepped down after more than four-and-a-half years in the role.

Markey joined the UK health and beauty retailer in 2021 and is said to have played a key role in leading a widespread data-driven overhaul and growing the Walgreens Boots Alliance-owned company’s loyalty proposition.

He was also responsible for some of Boots’ biggest Christmas and summer advertising campaigns.

Not to mention launching the retailer’s Love Island television show beauty partnership from 2021, driving a more than 50% revenue increase, according to his LinkedIn.

“Boots is an incredible business and it has been an honour to work on such an amazing brand and with such a talented group of people over the past 4.5 years,” Markey posted on LinkedIn.

“I am excited about the next chapter in my career and wish everyone in the Boots UK and Irish business continued success.”

Markey’s successor at Boots has not yet been named.

A Boots spokesperson told Cosmetics Business: “Pete has stepped down from his role after four-and-a-half years leading our marketing function.

"Pete has made a significant contribution during his time with us, leading our marketing transformation and delivering many creative campaigns alongside our talented marketing team.

"We would like to thank him for his support and wish him well for the future.”

Boots’ sales recently shot up 1.6%, driven by a boom in online purchases.

The increase contributed to an overall uplift of 4.1% in revenue for its parent company for the three months ending February 2025.

Walgreens Boots Alliance was acquired in a US$10bn deal by Sycamore Partners in March, which has taken the US multinational holding company private.
