Profile

Cosmetic businesses have an opportunity and a responsibility to generate demand for sustainable ingredients. It is estimated that at least 70% of all cosmetics contain either palm oil or palm kernel oil derivatives. Therefore, even if a company uses small volumes in their beauty products, it can play a role in promoting sustainable sourcing and abandoning the use of unsustainable palm oil and derivatives.

When sourcing RSPO Certified material, companies can:

  • Make progress towards their company’s sustainability commitments and targets
  • Contribute to halting deforestation and protecting biodiversity
  • Reduce GHG emissions
  • Ensure labour rights and, Indigenous peoples and community rights are upheld
  • Contribute to economic development in producing countries where millions of farmers and workers rely on the palm oil industry for their livelihoods.
