The announcement follows the company’s recognition by US weekly magazine Time last November as one of the World’s Best Companies in Sustainable Growth 2025. Ranked 125th globally, Kolmar Korea was the only Korean cosmetics firm to make the list.
The new paper pouch, created in partnership with Korean pulp and paper company Murim, reduces plastic use by over 45 percent compared to conventional plastic or aluminium-based sheet mask packaging, which has long been criticised for its detrimental impact on the environment.
Made with Murim’s eco-friendly material, Neoforet FLEX, the pouch is designed to maintain its durability even in cold or humid conditions. Kolmar Korea plans to expand its use to refill cushion compacts and spout pouches.
In 2020, the company introduced the world’s first commercialised paper tube, reducing plastic consumption by over 80 percent. In 2023, it unveiled paper sticks for lip balm and sun sticks, cutting plastic use by 86 percent. Made from mineral paper derived from discarded stones, the paper stick has been widely praised for its innovative approach to waste reduction.
Kolmar Korea’s eco-friendly designs have earned international acclaim, with the paper tube and paper stick receiving accolades at IDEA, the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award.
“We are honoured to be recognised for our sustainable growth initiatives,” a Kolmar Korea official said. “We remain committed to advancing eco-friendly technologies and fulfilling our role as a global leader in K-beauty.”
