Lucy McPhail has been named Harvey Nichols’ new Beauty Buying & Merchandising Director.
She takes over from Clare Horner, who stepped down earlier this year after more than four years at the helm of the retailer’s beauty division.
McPhail will report directly to CEO Julia Goddard and is charged with steering the evolution of Harvey Nichols’ beauty offer as the business undergoes a significant repositioning.
A seasoned industry executive, McPhail most recently consulted for beauty retailer Space NK, and is said to bring a wealth of luxury retail experience from senior roles at Threads Styling, Liberty and Harrods.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for Harvey Nichols, as the retailer rolls out a three-year transformation plan designed to streamline operations and reinforce its reputation as a destination for cutting-edge fashion, beauty and hospitality.
“Lucy brings extensive industry expertise to Harvey Nichols,” said Goddard.
“In line with our broader transformation strategy and renewed focus on our core fashion and beauty edit, Lucy is exceptionally well placed to lead the evolution of our beauty division.
“We also extend our sincere thanks to Clare for her dedication and contribution to the business.”
Commenting on her new role, McPhail said: “I am thrilled to be joining Harvey Nichols at this true point of evolution.
“There is such genuine excitement for a global reimagined department store experience.”
McPhail steps into the role following Horner’s departure.
Horner, who joined Harvey Nichols in 2021, played a key role in navigating the beauty category through a period of Covid-19 pandemic disruption and shifting consumer behaviour.
The company’s restructure is part of Goddard’s ambition to restore Harvey Nichols’ status as a “British icon” while adapting to the evolving luxury retail landscape.
