New label deters thieves but doesn't mar branding

Health and beauty items are categorised as high-theft products. But now Checkpoint Systems has created a clear Enhanced Performance (EP) Electronic Surveillance (EAS) label designed to protect small cosmetics from theft without interfering with packaging or covering barcodes. Described as a visual deterrent to theft, the EA Clear labels have been proven in retailers' pilot studies to reduce shoplifting by up to 15%.

"The EP Clear label gives retailers and manufacturers the effective protection they seek for smaller merchandise that is highly susceptible to theft," says Farrokh Abadi, president of shrink management systems, Checkpoint Systems. "The proven decline in shrink is due to potential shoppers seeing that products are clearly protected – the label's electronic circuit is now visible on the products. For small high-theft items, visible deterrence is a preferred method of protection."
