In partnership with the Vegan Society, Eurofins has developed a robust Vegan Verification Programme, the first of its kind within the industry

Veganism has become a mainstream lifestyle choice adopted by an ever-increasing number of consumers, who view it as healthier, ethical and more sustainable.

Driven by growing consumer awareness of the usage of animal-derived ingredients and increasing demand for vegan-certified products, vegan-friendly beauty care could become the standard for cosmetic products.

In partnership with the Vegan Society, Eurofins has developed a robust Vegan Verification Programme, the first of its kind within the industry.

This innovative and comprehensive methodology provides a complete solution for cosmetics and personal care products which establishes whether any animal products or by-products have been used in their manufacturing and development process. Vegan Verification helps to specify vegan cosmetics products using a phased approach covering:

  1. Toxicological and Regulatory Assessment This step involves documentary analysis of raw materials (both the composition of raw materials and their manufacturing process) to verify the absence of substances of animal origin or derived from animal products. It also covers the analysis of tests performed on both raw materials and finished products in order to verify the absence of any form of animal tests and the use of vegan alternative in vitro tests. In the case where the documentary analysis is incomplete or not precise, a testing strategy is developed.
  2. Testing phase Complete tests are carried out in our labs to look for the presence of animal DNA by PCR.
  3. On-site manufacturing audit To analyse, among other things the risks of cross-contamination.
  4. Declarations of conformity / labelling of products and/or promotional material. Upon successful completion of testing, clients can qualify for the use of both the Eurofins Vegan Verified Logo and the Vegan Society Trademark through licensing.

This complete programme allows manufacturers, brands and retailers to comprehensively test their products and label them as 100% vegan.
