The founder of eco&more discusses the future of natural and animal-friendly personal care in China

Founded in 2011 in Shanghai, eco&more sells personal care products, including hair washes and facial washes. Labelled natural and cruelty-free, the products contain imported essential oil and are manufactured in China, as founder Jeni Saeyang explains.

What is eco&more working on now?

We are about to introduce new scents for men who like to hit the gym. We also plan to expand our refill programme, which started a year ago in Shanghai. We want to build more refill stations to promote our products and reduce package waste.

How important is cruelty-free for Chinese consumers?

Right now, I see only a very small group of Chinese consumers care about animal testing, but we want to set a model. eco&more is a very young brand, but our Chinese rivals actually copy us and watch what we do, so being cruelty free is an example showing people how forward thinking our brand is.

What will be the next big personal care trends in China?

In general, I think personal care product trends in China, along with trends in fashion, follow those in the West, where ecologically-minded products that are safer to use and have less packaging are increasingly favoured by consumers.
