Jenni Falconer – British television star, Smooth Radio host and co-founder of Kollo Collagen – reveals her must-have skin care brands and her desert island product

What is your first memory related to beauty?

I remember being fascinated with skin care. Seeing my mum and grandma both take pride in their own beauty routines prompted me to do the same. I have made sure I’ve cleansed and moisturised every morning and night ever since I was a teenager. And to this day I don’t miss it.

I think my mum got me a Clinique set so for years my routine was their three step cleanse, tone and moisturise. It clearly made an impact as I still do it religiously now – I’ve just switched up the products.

What is your typical skin care routine?

It’s all about moisturising for me. Yes, I cleanse with a foaming cleanser, and I use a splash on a face toner/face essence, then I use serums, and lotions and potions galore! Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, Bioeffect EGF Power Serum, Medik8 Hydr8 B5 Intense, then Medik8 R Retinoate Eye Serum and a moisturiser like Skinceuticals' Triple Lipid Restore.

I also use exfoliators, either Murad's AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser or Oskia's Exfoliating Balm. I also love Tatcha Violet-C Radiance Mask and Bioeffect Imprinting Hydrogel Mask and Eye Masks. Trinny’s BFF De-stress is my current favourite tinted moisturiser along with the BFF Eye Serum. I adore L’Occitane’s moisturising Almond Shower Oil.

And, of course, my fave lip balms are all hugely moisturising – the Bondi Sands, Laneige Sleeping Mask or Esho Coat. Then body moisturiser, I have plenty but the one I always come back to is Palmer's Cocoa Butter. It’s the best.

What is your biggest beauty-related mistake?

Fake tan. There's been a few disasters with that over the years. And using products that aren’t right for my skin which when I was younger would make me break out in spots. Also, home hot wax kits – never again!

I have learnt that your face is on show all the time, so spend money wisely and sensibly. Invest in the right products. People spend a fortune on shoes, but then buy cheap face cream or hair products. I think we have it the wrong way round!

What is your desert island beauty product?

Collagen without a doubt. A huge barrel filled with Kollo collagen would be perfect. It’s great for hydrating skin, keeping the hair and nails in top condition, improves skin elasticity and helps with joint stiffness and any aches and pains.

It’s also great for muscles, bones, the immune system and the extra boost of vitamins will help keep the mind focused and feeling positive. And it’s tasty! I co-founded and helped create the product, so I’m obsessed with it!

How has your attitude to beauty evolved?

We have one skin, we should look after it. Otherwise one day you might regret it and by then it could be too late. Look after your skin, use great products that are suitable for you and don’t skip your skin care routine!

Who has influenced your beauty routine the most?

My mum taught me the importance of looking after my skin but now I have gone above and beyond, trying out different products and really looking for the best ones that I can justify buying without breaking the bank. There are so many incredible products out there and they don’t all have to cost the earth!

What is self-care to you?

Self-care is time to relax. For me it’s a run, followed by a shower and then a pamper session with a scrub, a face mask, and serums and moisturisers – maybe even get the TheraFace out to massage and do some red light therapy.

Then plaster the body in moisturiser and if time, top up a bit of tan to give a healthy sun-kissed glow. If I don’t have time for all that, then self-care is just a run, a quick shower, applying some face products and ideally chilling out with my feet upon the sofa!
