European and Asian retailer A.S. Watson has announced that its luxury trading division across Europe fared well over the Christmas 2009 period. Sales were 2% up on the same period in 2008 with the week of Christmas itself seeing an impressive 14% year-on-year increase
This success equated to approximately 19m bottle of fragrance and 7.4m gift sets which were sold through the 1,600 A.S. Watson-owned retailers across Europe including Marionnaud, ICI Paris XL and The Perfume Shop.
Malina Ngai, a spokesperson for the group commented: “Nearly every customer put two or three bottles of fragrance plus a gift set into his or her shopping basket. Traditional brands did very well in women’s fragrance while male buyers were a little more adventurous. Best selling fragrances for women in Europe were Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Dolce & Gabanna while the best selling male fragrances were Hugo Boss, Armani and Dior.”
A.S. Watson is the world’s largest health and beauty retailer with a current total of 8,700 stores across 34 markets in Asia and Europe, with its luxury trading division being the leading selective operator in Europe.
