Polymer and high performance plastics supplier Bayer MaterialScience LLC has opened a €2.3m production line for its Baycusan® range of waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUD).

The new facility, part of the PUD plant at the Dormagen Chempark in Germany, will produce Bayer’s Baycusan® C polyurethane dispersions, which are said to be free of co-solvents and preservatives, making them unique to the market according to the company.

The new facility is also said to be germ-free and the production process dispenses with co-solvents such as N-methylpyrrodlidone (NMP) and ethanol thanks to a special process created by Bayer.

“This project, which we completed in less than two years, is a wonderful example of our innovation strategy,” commented Dr Joachim Wolff, head of coatings, adhesives & specialities (CAS) at Bayer MaterialScience. “To enable us to deliver more success stories we will invest around 30% more in research projects and customer-related developments this year than we did in 2007.”
