UK teenagers worry more about their bodies than their grades, according to new research by skin treatment brand Bio-Oil, which coincides with a new campaign to inspire a lifetime of body confidence.
Bio-Oil is asking customers to share their own positive body message or wisdom at www.mybodyphilosophy.com so that others can benefit from the advice.
Bio-Oil is also working closely with education charity Body Gossip to take a selection of body philosophy messages into schools and encourage body confidence in young people.
Body Gossip Founder and Director Ruth Rogers says: “Low self-esteem due to a lack of body confidence is preventing far too many young people from fulfilling their potential. It doesn’t just have a negative effect on their educational growth, but it can also drastically alter a young person’s development in adult life.”
The research, which was conducted by One Poll on behalf of Bio-Oil also found that skin and body worries prevent one in ten girls from contributing in class and 13% of those questioned didn’t want to go to school at all.
As part of the campaign the brand will fund the charity to run a Body Confidence Performance Project in 20 schools throughout the UK.
From now until 31 October, customers can nominate a school to receive a free body confidence workshop by going to www.bodygossip.org/nominate-a-school.
