Body Shop L'Oreal deal gets European approval
The European Commission has cleared, without imposing conditions, the takeover of The Body Shop by L’Oréal, after concluding the deal would neither harm consumer choice nor reduce competition in the cosmetics sector.
It said: “Horizontal overlaps between the activities of The Body Shop and L’Oréal are limited and that the combined entity would continue to face several strong competitors with significant market shares.” Brussels added in a statement that because of The Body Shop retail network's “limited size” the takeover would not deny “cosmetics manufacturers access to a significant distribution channel nor deny competing retailers access to L’Oréal cosmetics products”.
