Published: 4-Jun-2006

Brazil has jumped from sixth to fouth position in world rankings for consumption of toiletries, fragrance and cosmetics. With revenues of US$13.8bn in 2005, Euromonitor says Brazil's national growth of 34.2%, against a global rate of 8.2%, saw it overtake C&T markets in Germany and the UK.

“We expect that with annual growth above 20% we'll be able to move up to third position in 2007 or 2008,” comments João Carlos Basílo da Silva, president of

ABIHPEC (Brazilian Association of the Cosmetic, Toiletry & Fragrance Industry). The top three positions are currently held by the US, Japan and France.

Brazil’s accelerated growth in 2005 was helped by tax load reduction on products including sun care, the creation of new consumption habits and the industry’s determination to launch new and competitive products both nationally and globally.
