Parent company OpenAi has partnered with Stripe to launch an instant check out option, allowing customers to purchase products such as beauty through ChatGPT

Open AI has launched Instant Checkout – a new ChatGPT feature which allows users to purchase products directly through the artificial intelligence (AI) agent.

Powered by marketplace payments platform Stripe, the new feature makes products from online marketplace Etsy available to shop through the interface, with a number of Shopify-powered stores expected to join soon.

These merchants include beauty brand Glossier and Kim Kardashian’s Skims, both of which will be available to shop through the AI agent.

The launch of Instant Checkout marks a huge shift toward AI-led commerce, turning ChatGTP into a new digital storefront.

Market intelligence from Sensor Tower revealed that shopping is one of the fastest-growing categories when it comes to ChatGPT prompts, accounting for 9.8% of all searches through the AI agent.

From January to July 2025, shopping-related searches and queries on ChatGPT doubled.

Instant Checkout will see purchases made through the AI platform processed through Stripe, using Shared Payment Tokens (SPTs) to secure information while enabling transactions.

A newly codeveloped Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) then integrates orders from the platform into merchants’ systems, preserving existing payment and fulfillment systems.
