Ciba Specialty Chemicals today announced its entrance into the colour cosmetics sector with the Calisha Color Collection, a range of cosmetic grade pigments comprising oil dispersible (OD) pearls, inorganic oxides and organic lake pigments. The OD pearl pigments are said to disperse quickly in the oil phase and reduce dusting, minimising colour cross-contamination. They are also said to compress easily in powders and enhance deposition of colour on the skin.
There are three effect pigment lines. The Calisha Romance Collection of OD pearl pigments promises smooth, soft colour with good coverage and opacity. The soft, subtle tones are designed for today's radiant skin and make-up formulations.
The Calisha Contemporary Collection comprises warm, bright effect pigments, also said to offer good coverage. These OD pearl pigments have a larger particle size and a wide range of iron oxides and ultramarine pigments. The result is warm tones designed to add brilliance to the skin.
Finally, the Calisha Art Deco Collection is made up of bold effect pigments to offer a range of cover options and shades. The particle size of these is the largest of the three and the pigments have a sparkly effect. It also includes lakes and deep shades of chromium green pigments. The larger particle size means light can pass through, making pigments less opaque and creating more dramatic effects.
“The Calisha Color Collection represents innovation, quality and consistency - characteristics that are valued by our customers and that represent what Ciba already provides to many areas of personal care,” says Catherine Ehrenherger, global head of home and personal care at Ciba Specialty Chemicals. “Our OD pearl pigments, created by a unique Ciba process, provide opportunities for new formulation approaches and offer a wide range of transparency and coverage so that today's colour cosmetics can meet the demands of today's consumer.”
