Ciba has announced it has signed an exclusive global agreement with Pure Bioscience to market and develop the water-soluble antimicrobial preservative silver dihydrogen citrate for personal care use.

Under the agreement, Ciba will market the technology under the trade name Ciba TINOSAN SDC, while Pure will continue to market it in other areas.

The colourless, stabilized compound is said to incorporate easily and offers attractive sensory and toxicological properties. It is suitable for use in personal care applications such as deodorants, lotions and liquid soaps.

“With this technology we are able to support customers in the personal and household care industries as they strive to enhance the antimicrobial effects and shelf life of their formulations,” said Catherine Ehrenberger, global head of Ciba’s home & personal care business line. “We are especially excited about the opportunities in the cosmetics market, where manufacturers are increasingly expected to deliver antimicrobial benefits without compromising the look and feel of their products.”
