Cognis enjoys stable 2008 results
Global speciality chemicals supplier Cognis has reported encouraging results for fiscal 2008. The company’s net sales increased 5.5% to €3.001bn buoyed particularly by sales in its personal care segment, Cognis Care Chemicals, which grew 7.1% to €1.684bn. Sales increased in Both Europe and North America by 4.1% and 3.1% respectively but the most dramatic growth was witnessed in Central and South America, up 20.9%.

Although Cognis’ net loss including special items was around the €63m mark, the company says this represents an improvement of €57m compared to 2007 and the company’s overall cash position grew to €226m. Cognis’ 50% stake in the Cognis Oleochemicals joint venture and the sale of subsidiary Pulcra Chemicals were jointly credited for this increase.
