Cognis expands Asia Pacific presence with Malaysian affiliate
Cognis has celebrated the new year with the opening an affiliate in Selangor, Malaysia. Cognis Malaysia Sdn Bhd, opened on 1 January 2010, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cognis Group and is intended to accelerate the group’s growth in the region by improving levels of service to customers.

Cognis now counts Asia Pacific as its third biggest market after Europe and North America and says it was a logical step to devote more resources to operations in this region, with the choice of Malaysia reflecting the country’s strategic importance as a high growth market driven by wellness and sustainability trends.
“We believe that Malaysia and the whole Asia Pacific region has significant growth potential that is fully in line with Cognis’ strategy,” comments Jimmy Lau, legal representative for Cognis Malaysia. “By opening an affiliate in Malaysia we want to gain a deeper understanding of the local market and be closer to our customers. We aim to double Cognis’ sales in Malaysia over the next five years by helping our customers to gain the competitive edge they need to succeed.”
The Malaysian affiliate will employ technical and commercial managers to work on all three of the company’s strategic business units – care chemicals, nutrition & health and functional products.
