Colipa welcomes sunscreen guide
European C&T association Colipa says it welcomes September’s publication of the European Commission’s Recommen-dation of 22 September on the Efficacy of Sunscreen Products and Claims relating thereto.
The recommendation sets out: claims which should not be made in relation to sunscreen products; precautions to be observed including application instructions; the minimum efficacy standard for sunscreen products in order to ensure a high level of protection of public health; simple, understandable labelling to assist in choosing the appropriate product.
Continued and consistent use of the SPF is considered to be in the interest of all. “Colipa agrees that the variety of labelled SPF numbers can be limited without significantly reducing the choice of consumers,” says the association. “Colipa also welcomes the intention that any labelling referring to UVA protection should be linked to a demonstrated minimum efficacy and will actively contribute to its implementation.”
