Cradle Holdings - the group that comprises luxury perfume brand Penhaligon's, skin care company Erno Laszlo and French perfume group L'Artisan Parfumeur - has been put up for sale by its private equity owners for £30m to £40m.

US-based Fox Paine is understood to want about £80m for the businesses, and Penhaligon's, as one of Britain's oldest perfume brands, could be sold separately for as much as £40m.

The auction process is said to be its early stages, and the group could be sold individually or together.
