Dow Corning hopes to boost silicone sales with Xiameter online model
Silicone specialist Dow Corning is transforming its online business, Xiameter, into the world’s largest online portal for the purchase of silicone-based products. From this summer, the company is more than doubling the number of standard products offered through Xiameter, which was launched seven years ago, to 2100. The minimum limit for order volumes will be lowered to make products available to those who do not necessarily want to purchase in bulk, while products previously sold only through Xiameter will also be available through distributors. Dow Corning believes these changes will help attract new customers, including those from developing markets.

Chinese and Korean language versions of the website will also be launched, while critical pages on the website will be available in multiple languages.
Klaus Hoffmann, Dow Corning’s president for Western Europe, stressed that Dow Corning and Xiameter would work side by side as two very distinct brands; from the website’s launch, products will be available either through Dow Corning or Xiameter, but not through both, with Dow Corning providing specialist products and Xiameter delivering a super-efficient service for customers who need standard silicone-based ones. “Xiameter is about real efficiency, but the Dow Corning brand is about real innovation,” he summarised at a press conference held yesterday.
In addition, the company announced a significant focus on sustainability. Measures included innovating products for the alternative energy market and addressing issues of water scarcity. With regards to the C&T market, Dow Corning said that it would cater to the manufacturers of natural products by blending silicone technology with natural ingredients.
