Farfetch offloaded its beauty division in August this year after originally launching into the segment in April 2022

Luxury fashion retailer Farfetch has reportedly placed beauty brand Violet Grey up for sale.

Farfetch originally acquired the Los Angeles-based business in January 2022, ahead of its debut into the beauty category.

The brand’s eponymous founder will allegedly stay on with Farfetch through the sale process, according to a report  by The Business of Beauty.

It comes after Farfetch shuttered its beauty division in August this year.

An internal document seen by multiple industry sources claimed that the luxury fashion retailer would stop selling beauty products by the end of the month.

It is alleged the e-commerce business struggled to attract and retain beauty consumers.

Farfetch originally launched into the segment in April 2022, teaming up with more than 100 brands and spokespeople such as Isamaya Ffrench and cosmetic scientist Michelle Wong.

Cosmetics Business has reached out to Farfetch for comment.
