Contract packer Wasdell Packaging has used Sessions of York’s RC30 labelling system for a new project. Designed to label a variety of difficult-to-handle products from 10-30mm in diameter, the Sessions RC30 is suited for items such as vials, tubes, pencils, batteries and lipsticks. A spokesperson for Wasdell said: “We required a highly accurate labelling machine for three different sizes of vials and the RC30 was the ideal solution.”
After modifications including a pharma code reader and a hot foil printer with print presence, the RC30 takes the unlabelled vials and applies the labels after printing a batch code on them. It also checks that the barcodes will read and that the label and print are present, stopping the machine in the event of any fail. The RC30 comes with an optional tray-to-tray feature, ideal for small and difficult-to-handle products. Instead of randomly ejecting the labelled vials, a device fitted to the out-feed of the machine turns them 90 degrees and then ejects them singly onto a catchment tray by a pneumatic cylinder.
The spokesperson continued: “With the additional modifications, the RC30 is an extremely useful tool and has increased our production immensely. By utilising the space with its simple designs, Sessions installed the machine on time and with little disturbance.”
