The continued popularity of nail care trends and high street nail bars has seen the professional nail care industry grow from strength to strength. According to Kline's latest Professional Nail Care: Global Market Brief report, the category saw a 25% increase globally last year.

"Contrary to the waning performance of some other professional care segments, the limping economy is fuelling industry growth by prompting consumers to enjoy and indulge in a little affordable luxury," said Agnieszka Saintemarie, Kline project manager.

Growth has been spurred on by the introduction of over new gel products in recent years, raising the growth rate of gel products to nearly 30 per cent in 2012.

Express nail bars have also taken off in the US and especially the UK, where the number of nail bars increased by 20 per cent last year alone.

Geographically, Latin America leads the way in terms of category growth, seeing over 30% growth in 2012 due to factors including the increasing number of women in the workplace and steady launches of new products.
