Revlon has announced its Q1 2014 results, with net sales figures remaining largely unchanged from the prior year period.
Consumer segment net sales decreased 0.1% to $339.5m, compared to $340.0m in the first quarter 2013. Excluding the impact of foreign currency fluctuations (XFX), net sales increased 2.8%, primarily driven by higher net sales of Revlon ColorSilk hair color, and partially offset by lower net sales of SinfulColors colour cosmetics. Retail brands acquired in the TCG acquisition represented $15.5m of net sales in Q1 and $14.1m in the prior year period.
Consumer segment profit was $71.5m, compared to $76.7m in the prior year period. On an XFX basis, consumer segment profit decreased 4.0%, primarily due to $8.4m of higher advertising expense to support consumer brands.
In the US, total company net sales were $250.2m, compared to $232m in the comparable prior year period, showing an increase of 7.8%. Such increase was primarily due to higher net sales of professional brands CND Shellac and American Crew. Internationally, total company net sales were $219.6m, compared to $218m in the prior year period. On an XFX basis, net sales during Q1 2014 increased 4.8%, primarily driven by higher net sales of Revlon colour cosmetics in Japan.
