As a result of this vote the Cosmetics Directive (Dir. 76/768/EEC) has added new legislation, which means substances will now also undergo an in-depth assessment of their potential environmental impact via REACH.

Colipa director general, Bertil Heerink commented: “We welcome the outcome of today's vote. The cosmetics industry strongly believes that REACH will contribute to increased consumer confidence. If well implemented REACH should contribute to secure our competitiveness and our capacity to innovate.”
