A new era of functionality: BergaCare AquaLipids

Published: 25-Jan-2023

Berg+Schmidt presents at in-cosmetics Global in Barcelona (stand AA90) a new range of advanced active oils for high efficiency in different formulation types

Berg+Schmidt, expert in natural ingredients, will be showcasing a range of active oils in an innovative format at in-cosmetics Global: BergaCare AquaLipids are specially processed natural oils that are water dispersible and therefore easy to handle in a variety of applications, such as water-based serums, fluids, toners and o/w emulsions. What’s more, the ingredients are able to modulate sensory properties of the finished product.

In contrast to base oils, active oils are characterized by high proportions of vitamins, antioxidants and polyunsaturated fatty acids for enhanced regenerative and cosmetic effects. BergaCare AquaLipids are also technically advanced for ease of use of the valuable but sensitive active ingredients. As they are water-dispersible, new formulations can be designed quickly and therefore cost-effectively, or simply added to existing formulations for added functional benefits.

The active oils of BergaCare AquaLipids are not chemically modified and all are of natural origin. Moreover, they readily mix with water without the need for solubilizers, thus enhancing skin compatibility and reducing the foaming sensation during application.

At in-cosmetics Global in Barcelona, Berg+Schmidt will present a sample kit showcasing serums and gels containing several BergaCare AquaLipids that target the specific needs of different skin types:

BergaCare AquaLipids Cassis BR contains a combination of blackcurrant and rosehip seed oil, resulting in a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, e.g. gamma, alpha-linolenic and linoleic acids. This special composition promises improvement in the regulation of sebum production and anti-inflammatory effects, along with a pleasant skin feel and fast absorption. This product can also be used for oily skin concepts.

Pomegranate seed oil contains the highly beneficial punicic acid, which has a powerful antioxidant effect and thus helps counteract skin ageing in mature skin. It also contains numerous skin regenerating substances such as phytosterols, polyphenols and flavonoids. This valuable oil is processed into BergaCare AquaLipids Punica PS along with skin regenerating sea buckthorn oil.

BergaCare AquaLipids Bisabolol AR is designed for sensitive skin due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Key ingredients are an oily extract with a high concentration of alpha-bisabolol, a chamomile-derived molecule, and soothing rice bran oil.

BergaCare AquaLipids Melon BK contains the valuable oil of the Kalahari melon. With its extremely high linoleic acid content, it provides valuable building blocks for the development of the skin barrier and supports epidermal moisturization and hydration. The second key ingredient in this new product is bulbine frutescens leaf juice, which supports elasticity and collagen production, making it ideal for dry, thirsty skin.

Kristin Köhler, Division Manager Cosmetics, says: “The aim was to develop a new functional and innovative product range using valuable active oils known and trusted by formulators and customers. BergaCare AquaLipids promise ease of formulation for the creation of thrilling concepts based on all-natural ingredients for targeted skin care solutions. These new lipid compounds are real value drivers!”

More information about the technical background of BergaCare AquaLipids will be provided during a seminar in Theatre 1 on March 30, from 1:05pm to 1:35pm, with Dr. Sabilla Digel, R&D Manager at Berg+Schmidt, entitled: “Active oils reinvented: how skin health benefits and functionality come together”.
