Two film-forming polymers from AkzoNobel have also been shown to protect hair from the damaging effects of heat styling.

Two film-forming polymers from AkzoNobel, whose primary function is to deliver hair styling benefits, have also been shown to protect hair from the damaging effects of heat styling. Tests carried out by the company as part of AkzoNobel’s Science of Thermal Protection programme found DynamX, a urethane film-forming polymer that provides flexible hold, and Amphomer, a hard-holding acrylate copolymer, to demonstrate a high level of protection.

AkzoNobel subjected hair tresses treated with the appropriate polymer formulation to a temperature of 410°F. An analysis of individual hair fibres showed that Amphomer provided hair with protection from flat ironing, while DynamX provided superior thermal protection in applications such as flexible hold systems where polyurethane technology is preferred.
