Fifty seven thousand reasons to work in the cosmetics industry

Arthur Edward's 2016 survey revealed a very positive £50k+ average salary for professionals in the personal care sector compared to a UK national average of £27K. Flexible working was the most desired additional benefit.

Arthur Edward and those who participated in the survey clearly have great passion for the brands, products and innovation which creates a belief this is one of the best industries to work in! Of the 308 individuals who completed the full survey 79% have been in the industry for 4 years or more and over 90% feel that their remuneration expectations could be met within the industry.

Women dominate both the industry and the survey (57%) and it is also an industry that rewards professionals with 63% of the respondents having a degree or higher qualifications. It's not all super positive though as demand and competition for skilled staff has pushed up salaries leading to some signs of streamlining and some cut backs.

The report addressed 4 sectors (scientific, marketing, sales and operations) plus Perfume as an separate vertical. The highest salaries were within the Scientific and Operations sectors, for global companies with multiple sites. However the lowest salaries were also identified within the Scientific sector.

Science showed many entry points and routes but had staggering range of £15,000 to £700,000.

Career Progression (36%), is more of a driver to change jobs than a bigger financial reward (17%). 14% of Individuals cite the reason for their next career move as a desire to create a better work life balance and flexibility.
