Serene Skin Sage, a balancing and protective active

Published: 11-Apr-2023

At in-cosmetics global in Paris in 2022, Naolys, the specialist in active plant cells for the cosmetic industry presented a balancing and protective active: Serene Skin Sage

Developed from sage (salvia officinalis), a fragrant medicinal plant known in Europe since ancient times for its soothing, antiseptic and fever-reducing properties, Serene Skin Sage is made from whole active plant cells, that restore serenity and radiance to the skin by strengthening the functions of the skin barrier.

Serene Skin Sage boosts three aspects of the skin barrier: the physical barrier, by reinforcing the corneous layer; the chemical barrier by rebalancing the antimicrobial arsenal, and the immune-modulatory barrier by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Regarding the epidermis, it has the following effects:

  • Regenerating and restructuring: through increased cell renewal – increased KI67, loricrin and synthesis of lipids (ceramides and free fatty acids)
  • Protective: due to increased expression of three anti-microbial peptides (LL-37, Betadefensin 2 and psoriasis)
  • Balancing: through regulation of the microbial balance in the skin microbiota
  • Soothing: thanks to a decrease in TNF-alpha and IL1 alpha

A clinical study carried out on 20 women from 20 to 65 years-old showed an overall improvement in skin tone in terms of radiance (+30%), homogeneity (+21%) and
redness (-26%), after 28 days of treatment (two applications a day).

All tests were carried out with a concentration of 0.5% of Serene Skin Sage (20% cells in 80% plant glycerine).

Serene Skin Sage does not contain any preservatives. It can be used in formulas for skincare (face and body) and make-up products. COSMOS approval for all liquid forms
