Algenist has promoted Rose Fernandez, previously its Senior Vice President, to CEO after spending less than two years with the brand.

The skin care brand is best known for its algae-based skin care products, formulated using its patented alguronic acid and microalgae oil.

Fernandez will be taking the helm from L’Occitane’s ex-Managing Director, Frederic Stoeckel.

“I’m honoured to take on a greater leadership role within Algenist,” said Fernandez.

“We have a team of people that are passionate about our customers and our products this, paralleled with our ambition, will lead us to ultimate success.”

Having previously worked in leadership roles with Jurlique, Kate Sommerville and Murad, Fernandez has over 20 years’ experience in beauty sales, marketing and digital.

Stoeckel is stepping down to return home to France with his family.

He said: “It has been an honour leading the Algenist team since the brand’s inception.

“I’m extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished and I know Rose is the perfect person to further advance the brand.

“She possesses unparalleled knowledge of the industry and shows clear passion for the products.”

He added: “I’m confident her leadership will help further secure Algenist as a leading prestige skin care brand.”

Back in 2016 private equity firm Tengram Capital bought a US$20m stake in the skin care brand and has contributed significant capital for the brand’s development.

Meanwhile, parent company TerraVia kept retained its 20% stake.
