Takasago, the Japanese flavours and fragrances company, has opened its first-ever factory in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, in a bid to drive expansion in the region.

An investment of US$25m, the company hopes the 16,000sqm factory will enable it to better serve its clients with faster lead times, as well as supporting Indonesia's fast growing FMCG market.

According to Takasago, the new facility will give it a competitive edge in the Southeast Asia region, tapping into Indonesia's stable economy, skilled workforce and strong geographical location.

Meanwhile, the company said the opening will support the local community by providing job opportunities.

The factory builds on Takasago's global presence, with 26 facilities worldwide including in the US, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco and Singapore.

It follows health and beauty retailer Boots in announcing its expansion into Indonesia, aiming to boost its Asian presence with access to the country's 270 million population.
