PASS and Cosmetic Valley, two French trade groups representing cosmetic clusters, have signed a partnership deal in Grasse with the aim of launching joint business initiatives.

Both groups say they are under increasing pressure from European regulation which is imposing new standards and norms in terms of the quality of ingredients used and in the finished products. PASS is understood to be considering setting up a base in analytical chemistry with its partner to undertake joint R&D. Both PASS and Cosmetic Valley have made it clear that the agreement is in no way to be interpreted as the first step towards merger.

In other news Cosmetic Valley has organised a new congress to allow scientists and professionals to explore new paths open to the C&T industry through research carried out on the senses.

Said to be inspired by the increasingly sophisticated tools and technology available to provide better understanding of sensory perception, Cosmetic and Sensory: From Neurosciences to Marketing will gather over 15 international professionals from scientists and sociologists to marketing professionals. Topics due for discussion include socio-historical approaches; molecular, cellular and neurobiological bases of olfaction; sensory marketing; and research and industry trends.

The conference will take place between 24 and 26 June in Tours, France.
