Kemira Specialty has launched a new titanium dioxide (Ti02) product that is claimed to be extremely photo and chemically stable when used as a UV filter in sun care and skin care formulations.

UV-Titan M265 is a surface treated, highly hydrophobic, ultra-fine Ti02. It is designed to be easily dispersible in non-polar oils and silicones and its narrow particle size distribution and organic treatment is said to impart outstanding skin feel and transparency characteristics. Leena Kujansivu, product manager of Specialty Products explains: "Triethoxy caprylylsilane enables a chemically bonded coating on Ti02 particles, which provides superior surface properties. The stability of the coating is remarkable, with no residual ethanol, and compared to hydrogen reactive silicone it has no residual hydrogen potential."
