PZ Cussons has acquired The Sanctuary Spa brand from private equity company HgCapital. The £75m deal includes The Sanctuary day spa in London’s Covent Garden and the brand’s personal care products range.
HG bought the brand from private owners for £23m in 2005 and it has seen considerable expansion in the UK since then, largely through an exclusive tie-up with Boots.
PZ Cussons is strong in the UK with Imperial Leather and Carex and this acquisition will boost its position in the UK. The Sanctuary already has an agreement with retailer Target in the US but PZ Cussons is planning to extend The Sanctuary brand further outside the UK. The company reported good trading in Africa, Asia and Europe in the six months to the end of November 2007.
