The use of hair and skin cleansers causes defatting and dehydration of the skin, resulting in dry and rough skin.

SymMollient W/S is a new hydrophilic emollient from Symrise designed to combat these effects, improving the suppleness of the skin by restoring its lipid content (refatting), regulating its moisture content (anti-dehydrating, confirmed in-vivo using corneometer measurements) and improving skin tolerance of surfactants.

A patent application has been submitted for SymMollient W/S [INCI: Tredeceth-9, PEG-5-isononanoate, water (aqua)], which is recommended for use at concentrations from 1 - 5% in shampoos and bath and shower products. It is said to impart a creamy foam to surfactant preparations, leaving skin feeling smooth, supple and soft. It is a clear, colourless to light yellow liquid consisting of a mixture of a fatty acid polyglycol ester and a fatty alcohol polyglycol ether. It is clearly soluble in aqueous surfactant solutions and supports the solubilisation of oils and oil soluble ingredients in cosmetics, such as perfume compositions.
