“This new programme will contribute to promoting practices at the community level that support biodiversity conservation, respect traditional knowledge, and ensure an equitable sharing of benefits,” commented the union’s executive director, Rik Kutsch Lojenga.
The Union for Ethical BioTrade has also announced the first call for applications for Ethical BioTrade Community Grants, to coincide with its community programme. According to the union, these are intended to help local community suppliers meet Ethical BioTrade principles. It plans to award a total of €20,000 in 2009 to support suppliers of Union members.
