Sparkle Screen is a glittery sunscreen for children launched by two mothers based in Fort Lauderdale in the US.
The pair have founded a company, GlitterTots, to manufacture and promote the product. “We created Sparkle Screen because we wanted a sunscreen that kids wanted to wear,” said Dianna Akers, COO and co-founder of GlitterTots with Meredith Madsen. “After years of struggling to get my girls to apply regular sunscreen they now beg for it.” The product contains all natural ingredients such as aloe vera, shea butter and coconut oil and offers SPF30. It is also aluminium free, free of BPA and parabens and contains only natural broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection in the form of titanium dioxide and non-nano zinc oxide. It is also free of nut oils.
According to the brand, the strawberry scented product should be applied 30 minutes before sun exposure and when the sparkle is no longer visible, it acts as a sign to parents that it needs to be reapplied. Sparkle Screen will be sold via the GlitterTots website as well as in gift shops and through the pharmacy route. Promotion will take place virally through blogs and local television and tourism in the Fort Lauderdale area. GlitterTots has multiple products in development, and says it will be launching these throughout the year.
