TRESemme owner announces growth in the face of a sluggish global hair care category

Alberto Culver, owner of brands including TRESemme, Alberto VO5, Nexxus, St. Ives, Simple and Noxzema has reported net sales of $384.8m in the second quarter of fiscal 2010, up 11.8% on the prior year quarter ($344.3m). This contributed to a 7.3% increase in net sales for the first half of fiscal 2010 to $747.8m.

In the US, however, sales declined 1.7%, due to lower than normal customer service levels (a result of disruption to the company's manufacturing, supply chain and systems), a situation that Alberto Culver president and ceo V James Marino believes will continue into the current quarter.

Alberto Culver’s most recent acquisition was UK skin care brand Simple, which it purchased in December 2009 for $385m.
