Brochure now said to be most widely read publication in the world

Avon today celebrates its 125th anniversary. This day in 1886 David H McConnell founded the pioneering beauty company in New York. Starting with a simple line of five floral fragrances, Avon is now the world’s largest direct seller and creates and evaluates nearly 1,000 cosmetic, fragrance and toiletry products every year.

One of Avon’s leading ladies, Amanda Garrett, marks the day by stepping out on her 1,000th round. Garrett has run her own Avon business for 16 years and reckons to have sold over 2,500 lipsticks and 1,500 bottles of perfume, covering almost 7,000 miles to deliver brochures and products to customers, friends, family and neighbours.

At the other end of the scale, 19 year old student and Avon representative Lauren Moulsley will be delivering Avon brochures around her campus at Bournemouth University.

Avon says it has 6.5 million independent representatives, selling over 3.5 billion products a year to 300 million customers in over 100 countries around the world. The company also believes its brochure is now the most widely read publication in the world.
