Dr Marie Bejot, President of Laboratoire Oenobiol told attendees to the show that specific nutritional adequacies were well suited to supplementation.

The example of Western over-consumption of omega-6 fatty acids relative to omega-3, was overcome with oils in a tablet form, 'these effects cannot be achieved by topical application. They can only be achieved by nutritional intervention' she said.

The market for neutricosmetics, nutrients taken orally that produce a cosmetic benefit, is growing rapidly. A recent study by Kline and Company rated the global market at £1bn, with forecasts that it is set to double in the next five years.

Cosmetic companies have been quick to promote the 'beauty from within' elements of their products, from cocoa flavonoids and collagen extracts to carotenoid lutein.
