Vine, the social media platform that allows users to create six-second-long video clips played on a loop, has only a few months left before parent company Twitter pulls the plug.
The closure of the platform was announced on a blog post on 27 October, when ‘Team Vine & Twitter’ explained that it would be discontinuing the mobile app in the coming months.
It read: “We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way.”
With millions of people having used Vine since 2013, Team Vine & Twitter reassured users: “We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made.”
In the beauty industry, vine was used by brands to promote new products in an engaging and dynamic way, and by consumers seeking to share make-up and hair looks.
The social media platform was credited for hosting the video featuring 17-year-old Kayla Newman aka Peaches Monroee from Chicago, in which she coined the phrase ‘brows on fleek’.
